Located in eastern Germany there is one of the most beautiful and most popular German cities - Dresden . (Saxony center). It is just 20 kilometers from the Czech border. The city lies on both sides of the Elbe River in its valley. Due to its baroque architecture and its picturesque location Dresden bears the title of "German Florence." The town is well known for its monuments of Baroque architecture, a magnificent collection of paintings and other works of art.

The first time the city was mentioned in manuscripts in 1207. Travelers must begin with Dresden old town (Altstadt). An equestrian statue of patron of the arts and military affairs, the Saxon Elector Johann Georg III (1647-1691) is in the Theater Square. Here are also the Palace, the former residence of the Saxon electors (rulers), Zwinger Pavilion, a masterpiece of German Baroque, Dresden Opera, Catholic church, where on bequest of Elector Augustus his heart had been buried, the Protestant church Frauenkirche, rebuilt on donations of German citizens. An impressive masterpiece of Baroque period is the Zwinger Palace. The palace complex comprises many museums, the most famous of which is Dresden Art Gallery. The museum is considered one of the best in the world and includes such masterpieces as "The Sistine Madonna" by Raphael and "Sleeping Venus" by Giorgione. Here you will also see a lot of famous works by Titian, Veronese, Tintoretto, Correggio, Durer, Rembrandt and Vermeer.
